Super premium. How the Altai Territory became the center of pet food production
The unique Altai plant for the production of pet food in Aleisk has started operating at full capacity. Correspondents of the Free Course visited the production site and talked with Denis Starovoitov, Executive director of the Aleiskzernoprodukt enterprise.
What kind of factory is this?
The plant for the production of cat and dog food was launched by the S.N. Starovoitov Aleiskzernoprodukt CJSC in the jubilee year. On December 17, 2022, the company turned 90 years old. The plant was under construction for two years. The production line was put into trial operation on February 11, and in November the load of the new plant reached 100%.
If at the beginning of the year the company produced 50 tons of products per day, now this figure has tripled and amounts to 150 tons per day.
Denis Starovoitov,
Executive Director of Aleyskzernoprodukt CJSC:
Next year, we expect a 50-60% increase in sales of our own brands by the end of the year. We make high-quality food using modern equipment. Such an arrangement of equipment with such capabilities is probably the only one in Russia. This equipment, for example, allows you to add fresh meat to the feed, make pads with stuffing. Large companies are contacting us to place orders for the production of feed under their own trademarks, fully trusting our production.
What does the production look like
Pet food pellets are made from dry-ground raw materials prepared at a separate plant producing compound feed for farm animals. The grinding has a different fraction, so first it is adjusted to the required parameters, and then it is sent to an extruder, where fats, emulsions and other necessary components are added to the raw material.
The resulting mass passes through molding matrices — they allow the granules to be shaped into balls, hearts, ovals and other shapes. At the moment, there are about two dozen variations of the form in the enterprise and, if necessary, it is not difficult to develop new ones.
After that, the granules are dried, liquid components (chicken or fish oil, oil, etc.) are sprayed on them, cooled and distributed to the bunkers of the finished product, from where they subsequently arrive for packing via a network of conveyors.
What is being fed today?
CJSC Aleyskzernoprodukt named after S.N. Starovoitov is not a newcomer to the pet food market. Since 2004, the company has been producing dog food under the brand name "Dilly", at the new plant it became possible to expand the range with the release of a new type of cat food — they are produced under the trademark "Satland".
In addition, in the near future, the company will begin to produce super-premium feed under the Green Holder trademark. These feeds are characterized by a very high content of meat ingredients. Dog and cat food will be produced under the Green Holder trademark.
Currently, the company produces eight types of dog food, three for cats, and together with the premium segment, the company's assortment will expand to a dozen and a half.
Someone needs a crisis, and someone needs a window of opportunity
The development of pet food production, oddly enough, was facilitated by global crises. The first jump in sales occurred after the introduction of Western sanctions and the collapse of the ruble in 2014.
The next sharp surge in demand occurred against the background of the destruction of international logistics chains during the coronavirus pandemic, and another one this year.
Denis Starovoitov,
Executive Director of Aleiskzernoprodukt CJSC:
If we follow the long-term dynamics, it is clear that we double sales of animal feed every 2-2.5 years. So, in fact, we came to the need to build a plant — because we saw all the time that just a little more, and we would run into the ceiling of the productivity of the existing lines.
In 2022, some imported animal feed disappeared from the Russian market. The import of products from unfriendly countries has stopped or decreased significantly. Thus, an entire niche was freed up, which was successfully occupied by S.N. Starovoitov Aleiskzernoprodukt CJSC.
Along with the increase in volumes and expansion of the product range, the company has also expanded the geography of its supplies. The products proved to be in great demand both in the east and in the European part of Russia. In addition, Aley feed is supplied to the markets of the member countries of the Customs Union.
The multiplicative effect
CJSC Aleyskzernoprodukt named after S.N. Starovoitov is a whole complex of departments that are closely interconnected with each other. Therefore, the appearance of a new plant is an event that is significant not only in itself. The new production facility acts as an additional driver of development for existing sites.
Thus, a subsidiary, the Komsomolskaya poultry farm, is currently being modernized, whose products are used, among other things, in the production of pet food. Warehouses are being modernized at the feed mill.
This year, a new large branch of Aleiskzernoprodukt was opened in Novosibirsk. Among other things, sales of pet food through marketplaces will develop on this site. By the way, in addition to Novosibirsk, the company has 12 more branches in Russia, the joint Russian-Mongolian enterprise Aleisk Impex and the Beijing company Aleika.
Future plans
The company's plans for 2023 include the purchase of 10 covered wagons for the delivery of products to its branches. Currently, S.N. Starovoitov Aleiskzernoprodukt CJSC has a fleet of 70 grain wagons and 15 covered wagons. They are currently being delivered to the company's branches in Krasnoyarsk, Biysk, Abakan, Chita, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk. With the purchase of additional covered wagons, the geography will expand.
Denis Starovoitov,
Executive Director of Aleyskzernoprodukt CJSC:
From year to year, we invest significant amounts in the modernization of production. To a greater extent, we are working on optimizing production, improving working conditions and reducing costs. We are taking part in the federal program to increase labor productivity and support employment." Extended targeted support for the company, joint work with FCC specialists for a year. As far as I know, we are the only ones in the Altai Territory who have gone for annual maintenance and are already seeing results. We are implementing lean manufacturing, mechanization and automation tools. We have upgraded the equipment at the oat factory, and we are negotiating the acquisition of a robotic filling line for cereals and cereals.
Cadres decide
This year, the salaries of employees at the enterprises of S.N. Starovoitov Aleiskzernoprodukt CJSC increased by an average of 45%. At the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the company, honoring and rewarding distinguished employees was held.
In addition to current employees, those who have already retired were invited to the anniversary. People who have gone on a well-deserved vacation do not remain without attention; the company provides them with various kinds of support.
